The shrine of Padre Pio receives 7 million pilgrims each year and is second only to Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City in popularity. You can see his cell, his confessional, the crucifix from which he received the stigmata, and nearly everything he owned or touched, carefully preserved and labeled.
Sanctuary of Monte Sant'Angelo sul Gargano is the oldest shrine in Western Europe dedicated to the archangel Michael. Around the year 490 the Archangel Michael appeared several times to the Bishop of Sipontum near a cave, asking that the cave be dedicated to Christian worship and promising protection of the nearby town of Sipontum from pagan invaders. These were the first apparitions of Michael in Western Europe.
October 17th: San Giovanni Rotondo / Pompeii / Sorrento.
The city of Pompeii is a partially buried Roman town-city near modern Naples. Pompeii was partially destroyed and buried under 20 feet of ash in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. It was lost for nearly 1700 years before its accidental rediscovery in 1749.
Mass at the Shrine of the Virgin of the Rosary.
